Kitten Purchase Agreement
We’re sharing a copy of our kitten purchase agreement so you can review it in advance-transparency is important to us.
The following terms and conditions constitutes as a sales agreement between Susan Smalley of Country Roads Maine Coons, hereafter referred to as SELLER and the buyer listed below, hereafter referred to as BUYER regarding the purchase of a Maine Coon kitten.

Payment Terms:
- All Deposits are Non-Refundable. The deposit reserves the kitten of the Buyers choice.
- The deposit as well as the final payment will be paid via invoice sent the buyer from the Country Roads Maine Coons Square account.
- If the kitten is being transported via ground courier or flight nanny, we require full payment 14 days prior to departure date. All transports fees are to be paid at this time as well.
Shipping / Delivery Terms:
- The buyer is responsible for all delivery and/or shipping costs. This includes the return of the kitten for any reason.
- We will deliver at no charge to the following Cities. Huntington WV, Charleston WV.
- We will deliver to Morgantown WV, Mt Sterling KY, or Columbus OH for $180.00.
- We will deliver to Flatwoods WV or Beckley WV $60.00
- If the kitten is to be shipped by air or ground, all costs of transportation, including shipping crate, rabies vaccination and health certificates shall be paid by the Buyer.
- The Seller is not responsible for travel cost or errors including handling.
- Requirements for courier: Health Certificate $80.00; Pet carrier depends on courier. Flight demands special crate for flying average is $100-$150 (special modifications must be implemented for air flights) Carrier prices fluctuate.
General Terms:
- The deposit reserves the kitten of the Buyer’s choice.
- Quality definition :Pet – The kitten is to be spayed/neutered between 8 to 10 months. No exceptions.
- Quality definition: Show – The kitten can be used for showing. The seller does not guarantee show wins.
- Under no circumstances will this kitten be sold, leased or given to any pet store, humane society, research laboratory or similar facilities.
- If at any time the buyer cannot care for the kitten Country Roads Maine Coons will take the kitten back and try to find them a suitable home or the kitten will stay with Country Roads Maine Coons.
- If Buyer or Seller commences any legal action because of this contract, Buyer agrees that the place of venue for such action shall be the state of West Virginia in Putnam County. Any legal fees incurred in upholding this contract will be paid by the Buyer. This contract is legally binding to all parties named within and applies to only the buyer and the seller named below and is not transferable to other parties. If the buyer sells kitten
to a 3rd party, the health contract is Null and Void. - Should any slander, causing any type of damage to the reputation of Country Roads Maine Coons and/or its owner, resulting from any disputes associated with this agreement and the aforementioned kitten, or should any part of this contract be violated, the Buyer agrees to pay fines of $10,000 in addition but not limited to, collection costs, attorney fees, court costs and all other expenses of enforcing the rights of the Seller under this agreement. Defamation, slander, accusation are inclusive of, but not limited to all social media platforms.
- All veterinary cost and testing are the responsibility of the Buyer once kitten leaves Country Roads Maine Coons.
- Stress from a new environment can cause a healthy kitten to become ill. It is not unusual for a kitten to get an upper respiratory illness (like a common cold) or other stress related illness immediately after going to a new home. With good care, the symptoms should subside rather quickly. Please contact us and your vet if you have any questions or need advice.
- It is recommended that the kitten is quarantined from other pets for a minimum of 2-3 weeks.
- All sales are final. Refund or replacement is at the Breeders discretion.
- This contract is not transferable to another party.
Health Guarantee:
- Country Roads Maine Coons is only responsible for the kittens listed in this agreement.
- The kitten is to be sound of health upon arrival/pickup.
- To activate this health guarantee, it is the Buyer’s responsibility to have the kitten /cat examined by a licensed Veterinarian within 72 hours after arrival/pickup. A copy of the visit must be submitted to Country Roads Maine Coons via email or regular mail within 1 week of the veterinarian’s examination. If the kitten/cat is found to be medically deficient with an untreatable or life-threatening issue, it must be reported to the Seller immediately. Upon the kitten’s return, the kitten will be replaced with another kitten of equal value. Should no replacement be available, Seller has one year to provide a replacement kitten.
- The Seller cannot be held accountable in the future for FeLV/FIV/FIP, and any other URI’S, bacterial or viral infectious diseases, parasites, or fungus, due to the fact that these can be contracted anywhere in the environment after leaving the cattery and are not a result of genetics or breeding.
- This Kitten is being sent home with Trupanion’s Pet Insurance; you will have 30 Days free from time of pickup. Trupanion 30 Day free pet insurance is to be activated when the contract is signed or the day before pickup. The cost of the Insurance after 30 days is the responsibility of the buyer. It is NOT a requirement but a suggestion.
- It is recommended that the kitten is quarantined from other pets for a minimum of 2-3 weeks.
- Kittens are guaranteed against congenital defects for 1 year. Should the kitten die within the first year as a direct result of a congenital or genetic defect, the kitten will be replaced only if an appropriate necropsy is performed by a licensed veterinarian and veterinarians’ certification is provided as proof of cause of death. DNA parentage verification testing MUST be performed to provide the identity of the kitten. The Seller will replace the kitten with another of equal value at the Seller’s first opportunity. There will be no cash refunds given under any circumstances.
- All veterinary cost and testing are the sole responsibility of the Buyer.
- It is the responsibility of the Buyer to provide immediate veterinary care to any kitten showing signs of illness or distress. Failure to do so will render this warranty null and void.
- Under no circumstances is the kitten to be euthanized prior to notification from Buyer to Seller.
- Trauma, abuse, neglect, or failure to obtain adequate veterinarian care will void all opportunity for replacement kitten.
- Country Roads Maine Coons does not guarantee against pyometra, coccidia, herpes virus or any other URI’s that may occur since they are stress related.
- This kitten cannot be guaranteed to be free from Feline Enteric Corona Virus (FeCV). It is estimated by a research physician at the University of Missouri Veterinary Teaching Hospital that 93.7% of all cats have contracted Feline Enteric corona Virus. FeCV can, on rare occasions, mutate and cause the fatal disease FIP. Once again, the breeder cannot guarantee that this kitten will never contract this disease. No breeder can. - There is a treatment for FIP! Knowledgeable veterinarians can prescribe treatment. There is also a group for information on treatment options as well as support. You can contact FIP Warriors via Facebook group FIP Warriors 5.0.
- Kittens are not permitted to live outside. Must be on a leash or in a carrier.
- We are totally against declawing animals. We are providing you with information on clipping nails, to help prevent buyers from declawing. If you are uncomfortable trimming yourself, you can find help at your vet or local groomer.
- This kitten is not guaranteed against cosmetic faults (ie. Color change, markings, tail faults, ect). Cosmetic faults are not a health issue.
- The kitten is not guaranteed for behavior issues (i.e. Spraying, inappropriate urination, defecation, scratching furniture, etc.). The Buyer understands that the Seller cannot guarantee behavior issues as they are out of the Seller’s control after kitten leaves the cattery and goes to their new home.
- Size is not guaranteed. Too many factors contribute to size.
- Gingivitis/Stomatitis- Gingivitis occurs when your cat’s gums become inflamed, which means the gums become bright red, swollen, and painful. Also, any cat of any age can get stomatitis, but Maine Coon cats seem more prone to it. When gingivitis and periodontitis become widespread in your cat’s mouth, they can develop into stomatitis. Stomatitis is caused by the advanced immune response to gingivitis and periodontitis that comes with even more extreme swelling and pain and even lesions on gums. Treatment includes brushing teeth, Antibiotics, Steroids and possibly teeth extractions.
Country Roads Maine Coons is NOT responsible for Gingivitis/Stomatitis. Any and all treatment is the responsibility of the buyer. - By signing this contract, the Buyer is also signing permission for their veterinarian to disclose all veterinary information pertaining to this said kitten and all information on kittens living with said kitten. The Seller can ask which clinic and fax them a copy of this agreement to gain access.
- The Buyer acknowledges that Maine Coon cats are predisposed to dental issues such as gingivitis, peritonitis, and stomatitis. It is crucial to consult a veterinarian experienced specifically with Maine Coons, as misdiagnosis is common. The Buyer agrees to seek a second opinion before any dental procedures, particularly tooth extractions. The Seller will not be held responsible for any dental treatments that may involve the removal of teeth.
By initialing each page of this contract you have read, understand, and agree to the terms listed. All Deposits are Non-Refundable. The deposit as well as the final payment will be made via an invoice that will be emailed to you. By signing below, you are only agreeing to the terms and conditions of this document. Final payment via the invoice constitutes the transfer of the cat/kitten to you.
Purchasing a kitten makes the buyer solely responsible for the health and well-being of the kitten from the day it arrives at their home until the last day of their life. It is not the responsibility of the seller to pay for any veterinarian expenses, treatments, dental work, surgeries, testing or medicines that may be
required in the future for your kitten/cat. While everything is done to ensure that we deliver a healthy and viable kitten/cat, there is no way for us to predict the future health of any kitten. It is a precious living being and there is always a risk that it may develop a health condition in the future Country Roads Maine Coons will always be here for their Buyers. We will offer any advice we can to help a kitten adjust to their new home.
